Research activities within the Department encompass an extraordinarily diverse array of topics including signal transduction mechanisms, gene regulation, post-transcriptional control and post-translational modification, cell cycle regulation and DNA repair, metabolic regulation, macromolecular structure/function, enzyme catalysis/inhibition, chemical biology, structural biology, proteomics/genomics, bioinformatics/computational biology, and high throughput methods for biological investigation. These studies are expanding our knowledge about the biochemical and molecular basis of cancer, diabetes and obesity, neurological disorders, infectious diseases, cardiovascular malfunctions, and alcoholism.
